Using digital media safely
UPC places great importance on teaching its customers, employees and partners to use digital media safety. Through various projects, we pass on our knowledge and give everyone the opportunity to come into contact with digital media.
SISA – Cooperation for more security on the Internet
More secure and trusted access to services on the Internet is an important matter for UPC. For this reason, we are a founding member of the Swiss Security Alliance (SISA).
SISA is supported by leading Swiss companies and organisations. The multi-sector partnership aims to combine the strengths of the members’
commitment to making Switzerland a safe place to browse the web and to stand up to cyber criminals.
The Swiss Internet Security Alliance is supported by organisations from
the telecommunications industry (UPC, asut, Hostpoint, Sunrise, Swisscom), the financial sector (Centralway, Credit Suisse, Migros Bank, PostFinance, Raiffeisen, Swisscard, UBS, Viseca), education (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, SWITCH) and security (cyscon Schweiz) and is open to further interested parties.
To mark the founding of the association, SISA launched a Security Check, with which users can check and optimise their computers. The Swiss Security Check is free and can be accessed at www.swiss-isa.ch.
Data protection and sustainability
The increasing relevance of digital products is boosting business and accelerating change in society. As a provider of digital products UPC also bears a great responsibility.
This entails, aside from enabling access, responding to customers’ needs and promoting good conduct in the digital world. In particular, it also includes active protection of minors in their everyday use of the Internet, and data security for all users.
Commitment to Swiss eSport
eSports has landed in Switzerland and is a hit with both young and old. Through our commitment, we want to give the subject of eSport the public awareness it deserves. The online platform eSports.ch offers news, background information and highlights directly from the gamer scene. The content is provided by an independent team of editors made up of active YouTube users and up-and-coming talent. We are also a partner of the eStudios, the new gaming and video studio in the heart of Zurich, and work together with big gaming brands and professional eSports teams.
Free “power_up radio” on our cable network
Each year, we provide the Kinderdorf Pestalozzi in Trogen AR with the FM frequency 106.1 MHz for free in the city of St. Gallen. For three weeks each year, 8 to 18 year-old children and young people in the St. Gallen and Appenzell region can take to the airwaves thanks to the “power”-mobile – a radio station on wheels.
During this period they present their own programmes focusing on interculturalism, children’s rights and anti-racism. But music and fun topics are not forgotten. Although supported by qualified staff from the children’s village, the young broadcasters are responsible for their own editorial content.
