International Women’s Day

UPC attaches great importance to equal rights for women and men: already since the first evaluation in 2012 we have been ensuring equal pay regardless of gender. With Severina Pascu, the first female CEO of a Swiss telecom company, a powerful example was set, and International Women's Day 2019 was also celebrated in a big way at UPC for the first time. Her successor, Baptiest Coopmans, was committed to the advancement of women in technical professions and continued this tradition with a special campaign: Between 6 and 9 March 2020, UPC supported the non-profit organisation Girls in Tech by donating CHF 20.- for each subscription sold. Various activities are planned for International Women’s Day in 2021 as well, in order to draw attention to women’s concerns. Details will be shared here at a later point in time.

The Telethon Foundation finances the activities of the Swiss Foundation for the Study of Muscular Diseases (Schweizerische Stiftung für die Erforschung der Muskelkrankheiten), the Association Suisse Romande for the Fight against Neuromuscular Diseases(Association Suisse Romande Intervenant contre les Maladies neuromusculaires) and the Rare Diseases Platform Italian Switzerland (Associazione Malattie Genetiche Rare Svizzera Italiana ). The first fundraising event took place in 1988 and, thanks to volunteers such as firefighters, members of the civil defence, local societies, etc. managed to raise CHF 200,000. In addition to this, UPC has been a media partner since 2005 and enables the donation number to have more visibility on TV stations.
