Initial situation
Livit is a traditional Swiss real estate management company and has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Swiss Life insurance group since 1999. Around 530 employees manage 174,700 rental properties and 1,800,000 m² of commercial space with a total value of CHF 46 billion. Livit has offices in Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Lucerne, Solothurn, St. Gallen and Zurich (headquarters).
In 2003, a project for a new WAN solution was tendered in connection with the renewal of the data centre. All locations in Switzerland were to be networked with the data centre via broadband. With a view to future requirements, the network services were to be easily scalable. The implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) was also on the wish list. UPC Business offered the best solution and won the contract.
Solution
The data centre and all locations were connected to the fibre optic network of UPC Business, partly on a redundant basis. An MPLS VPN with QoS was implemented as WAN for prioritising the data traffic of performance-critical applications. In addition, all locations are supplied with Business Internet via a data centre. Current bandwidths:
· Business VPN: 10 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s
· Business Internet 1 Gbit/s
In 2015, Livit decided to outsource its entire IT to an IT full service provider and define it as a single point of contact. The selected IT partner is also a partner of UPC Business. The contracts were migrated to the joint partner in 2016. At the technical level, Livit is still directly supported by UPC Business (on-site installation, technical installation, monitoring, incident management and support). The collaboration works smoothly and the fibre-based services are very stable.
Extra miles
UPC Business was on site during the changeover to the new infrastructure and was able to react quickly to optimisation requests. UPC Business provided extensive support for the QoS implementation.
