The extra mile for Strüby Holzbau AG

Initial situation

Strüby, a family-owned company since 1949, ranks among the leading comprehensive providers of timber construction services in Switzerland. Strüby Holzbau AG realises multi-storey buildings and major projects with overall responsibility from the planning stage to handing over the keys.

Since 2011 the company has relied on consulting services and network solutions from UPC Business. As the main reasons for the switch to UPC Business, the IT management mentions the better value for money, the strong customer orientation and the willingness to react flexibly, promptly and proactively to special requirements. The planning and production processes are largely digitised and decentrally located, for which reason Strüby is reliant on a powerful and highly available company network as well as on a reliable data centre.

Solution

The active data centre is located in the main headquarters in Seewen, Schwyz, and the backup data centre at the production centre in Root, Lucerne. Between the two data centres there is a Business Ethernet connection with two bandwidths of 500 Mbit/s each. In addition, the following locations were connected with Business VPN: Seewen (2 Gbit/s), Root (1 Gbit/s), Bulle, Fribourg (900 Mbit/s) and Augsburg, Germany (1 Gbit/s). Business Internet is available in Seewen (500 Mbit/s), in Root (500 Mbit/s) and in Bulle (20 Mbit/s).

For fixed network telephony, UPC Business provides ISDN-PBX at two locations: in Seewen (PRI, 30 channels) and in Bulle (BRI, 2 channels). The Root and Augsburg locations use the Seewen telephone system. A flat rate was agreed upon for voice services.

Within the framework of a pilot project, Skype for Business is being tested at the headquarters. UPC Business supplied a SIP trunk for this.

Extra miles

In 2018 the services and contracts were modified with a view to future requirements. A few months after implementation of the services the WAN concept had to be redesigned in the context of the outsourcing strategy. UPC Business proved to be extremely flexible in this situation and offered optimal support for customising the solution.

Correct as of: November 2019

«Thanks to the intensive communication, UPC Business understands our requirements and knows what is relevant for us. the great advantage for us: we get all services from a single source. It’s a reassuring feeling to have a flexible partner at our side that spares no effort to go the extra mile for us.»
