Introduction of the QR Bill

The QR bill was introduced all across Switzerland on 30 June 2020. This will completely replace all red and orange pay-in slips by 30 September 2022. Find out on this page how simple it is to pay with the QR bill.

HERE’S WHAT THE NEW QR BILL LOOKS LIKE

Just like with the red and orange pay-in slips, the QR bill also consists of a receipt and a payment part. The QR code contains all the payment information such as the recipient, amount, etc. The same information is also given in text form to the right of the QR code.

HOW DO I PAY A QR BILL?

The most convenient way is to pay your QR bill with a mobile device (mobile banking) or using the desktop (online banking).

MOBILE BANKING

Open the banking app.

Scan the QR code with the QR reader function.

Check the data and authorize the payment.

ONLINE BANKING

Open online banking.

Scan the QR code with a QR reader or the computer camera.

Check the data and authorize the payment.

Scanning the QR code with all the payment information saves time and prevents typing errors.

PAYMENT AT THE POST OFFICE COUNTER

It will still be possible to pay at a post office counter or by mailing a payment order to your bank. Simply detach the bottom part of your UPC bill as usual. Show this part with the payment information at the post office counter, or send it to your bank as a payment order. Nothing is changing for you in this regard.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE QR BILL

Do I have to use the QR code?

No. If necessary you can also manually type in the payment information that is written next to the QR code. However, we recommend time-saving payments using the QR code.

Another alternative to payment with a QR code is the eBill. Then you receive your UPC bill directly in your online banking account and can authorize its payment there.

Please note: Make sure to remember

Payment templates need to be updated with the new payment details, otherwise payments will no longer be able to be processed after September 30, 2022.

What advantages do I have when I pay with a QR code?

Since the QR code already contains all the payment information, you no longer need to type in this information, so there is no risk of typing errors. This saves you time and you can pay very quickly.

Can I use Twint to pay my QR bill from UPC?

Not yet. This option will become available later.

Can I still pay my UPC bill at the post office counter?

Yes. As before, you just need the bottom part of your bill with the payment information. Detach this part along the perforated line and show it at the post office counter.

Invoices that you receive by e-mail cannot be printed out and paid at the post office, but instead must be settled online. Only bills that you receive by post can be paid in person at the post office counter.
