Tips & tricks

TIPS

It all comes down to speed, range and stability: with these tips you can make the most of your Internet connection.

MODEM LOCATION

Give your wifi waves enough room to move without hindrance!

Ideally, the modem should be slightly elevated, so that it overcomes furniture and other obstacles.

By the way: the modem works best if it is standing freely and is not hidden in a drawer or on a shelf.

ORIENTATION OF THE MODEM

The front of your modem (where the little lights are) should always be facing the room.

Do not position your modem with the front facing the wall or against a piece of furniture.

Ideally, the device should stand on its“feet” – as intended by the manufacturer.

AVOID SOURCES OF INTERFERENCE

Your modem likes to be alone. The following devices should not be too close, because they can impair the quality of a wireless Internet connection:

- Base station of a cordless telephone

- Baby phone

- Microwave

- Bluetooth devices

- Surveillance cameras

LAN INSTEAD OF WIFI

You will get the fastest and most stable Internet connection if you connect your computer to the modem with a network cable (Ethernet) instead of using wifi.

This is a good alternative if you use a stationary computer that is positioned close to the modem.

INCREASE RANGE

In larger flats or houses with several floors, a wifi modem is often not sufficient to guarantee stable wifi reception throughout. In this case, additional devices can help.

EXTEND OR AMPLIFY WIFI

CONNECT APP

Simply download the free Connect App and optimise your wifi with the “Check your home” feature. The app scans the wifi in your home and will either improve the connection or recommend a Connect Pod.

ROUTER SETTINGS

FREQUENCY BAND: 2.4 GHZ OR 5 GHZ?

A frequency band refers to a particular frequency range within which signals can be sent. The 2.4 GHz network radiates further but is slower. The 5 GHz network is faster but does not reach as far. Generally speaking, however, the 5 GHz network is used less and therefore offers a better connection.

Our tip: Try them both to find out which frequency band works better in your home. You can change the frequency range in the configuration menu of the router or via the Connect App. It is simplest to change the frequency range by using the free Connect App. In the Connect App you can find detailed installation instructions and you are competently guided through the optimisation of your wifi. Please note that some older devices do not support the 5 GHz band.

Note: Both frequency bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz, are activated at the same time on the Connect Box and the Giga Connect Box. The modem selects the better frequency automatically.
