LIVING & WORKING AT HOME - WITH UPC

OUR TIPS FOR YOU

Given the current situation, your home is suddenly much more than a retreat for sleeping, eating and relaxing. It's now your office or classroom and the hub for connecting with friends and family.

Whether you’re in your home office, chatting and phoning with friends or relaxing with your favourite show: The most important thing is a fast and reliable Internet connection throughout your home. That is why we have put together our tips for the best possible connection:

TOP TIP

For stable, fast Internet: Connect your mobile devices to the wifi at home too.

Use wifi instead of data volume

Even if you have an unlimited data volume included in your subscription, we recommend that you always turn on the wifi function for your mobile devices at home.

This is how you can benefit from reliable and powerful Internet while surfing and making phone calls. This is important, for example, if you would like to talk to your loved ones in a video call and you don't want to be disturbed by interruptions. Especially when friends and family are abroad, calling via Messenger services is a popular and free alternative to international calls using your smartphone and landline.

Position your modem optimally

Your modem should have enough space, should not be near certain devices (e.g. microwave) and the front should face the room. You can also find detailed instructions on how to do this on our support page about "Optimising Wifi". If you are not satisfied with your Internet connection, do the speed test and find out how fast your Internet is.

You still need help setting up your devices with Wifi?

Determine the signal strength of your wifi

With the free Connect App, you can check the signal strength of your Internet in any room. If the connection in a room is not optimal, the Connect App gives you a suggestion for how to optimise it, e.g. Wifi Booster. Please note: To use the Connect App you need a My UPC account.

Extend your Internet connection with Wifi Boosters

You have to set up your workplace spontaneously in the kitchen, but don't have an optimal Internet connection there? Order a Wifi Booster via the Connect App. You get two Wifi Boosters and simply plug one into a socket near your modem and the other into a socket in the kitchen. The Internet signal is transmitted via the power line.

Phoning over wifi (Wifi Calling)

As an alternative to the mobile network, you can also use your wifi to make calls. This way you benefit from an improved connection and voice quality for your calls.

The easiest way to set up Wifi calling is with the Mobile Assistant. There you will receive step-by-step instructions tailored to your smartphone model.

LAN instead of wifi (only for computers)

If you use your Internet on a computer, you will get the fastest and most stable connection if you connect to the modem via a network cable (Ethernet) and not via wifi.

This is especially useful if you work from home and use your computer to make phone calls and video conferences in addition to your normal work.
